HOW TO CHECK YOUR SUSPENSION PROBLEMS

Posted by Julie Smith on

When you take your car out on the road, you want to be able to enjoy a smooth journey to and from your destination (with the exception of the Shropshire Potholes!).  The last thing that you need is for your car to start jittering or to become unusable on the road.

If you suspect any car suspension problems, then have this diagnosed as quickly as possible. Problems to look out for:.

Suspension Problems Can Cause Weak Car Tyres

Whether your car has taken a pounding from a pothole on the road or the tyres’ friction has rubbed off due to snow, rain, dirt and debris or salt and grit from a snowy day, it is essential that any issue with car suspension is immediately sorted to save you from a future accident. With a worn suspension system, your stopping distance can be affected by up to 20%.

Keep an eye out for any sagging on the different sides of your car. If one tyre appears to be tilting or unaligned compared to the rest of the vehicle, this could be a sign that the vehicle has suffered from a car suspension problem.

Clacks, Bangs & Knocking Noises

Your car should feel like a protective shield against any problems of the road. Its springs are metal coils that absorb shock without bouncing a passenger around.   Should your journey feel bumpier than usual or the car is bouncing or thumping loudly on every small crack in the road, your springs may be a problem and need replacement.

Any Signs of Liquid Coming From Your Vehicle?

The last thing you need from your car is for it to start leaking oil whilst on the road or on the drive at home.   This may turn out to be a potential suspension problem.

If you look under your car and examine the struts or shocks, and they appear to be covered in a liquid that feels greasy, this may mean that they are leaking fluid and on the verge of replacement. Without fluid in these key components means less stability for your car.

Protect Your Car

When you have finally confirmed that your car has suspension issues, you will need to have it confirm  and/or fixed as soon as possible. Take it to a garage – such as Richard's Auto Services and have it checked over by our professional mechanics.
